Inside an Off-Grid Airbnb Built on a Mountain Summit
We visited a unique off-grid Airbnb that was built into the rocks on the summit of a mountain. The property is only about 20-30 minutes from our own off-grid land in Jamul, so I wanted to see how the owner made it possible and get ideas for what we can create on our own rocky hillside. Our 5-acre property is covered with boulders, steep terrain, and desert landscape. Our long-term goal is to transform it into an outdoor retreat, but developing on raw land comes with a lot of challenges - water, access, construction, utilities, and figuring out how to work with the natural terrain instead of fighting against it. That’s why this place was so inspiring. In this video, we tour the property, meet the owner, learn how the pool house was built into the hillside, see where the water comes from, explore the desert garden, and visit some of the peaceful spaces that make this property feel so special. Seeing someone turn a rocky mountain property into a peaceful off-grid retreat made our long-term vision feel a lot more realistic. If you’ve ever dreamed about owning rural land, building an off-grid retreat, or creating something special in a rugged landscape, this series is for you. This is part of our journey as we continue developing our own off-grid property in Jamul, California. 00:00 Visiting a Mountain Summit Airbnb 00:15 Entering Through the Boulders 00:52 Meeting the Owner 01:27 Building on Top of Rock 02:13 How They Get Water Up Here 03:08 The Hidden Desert Garden 04:21 A Meditation Spot With Mountain Views 04:55 Ideas for My Own Off-Grid Property 05:49 Exploring the Downstairs Space 06:41 What I Learned From This Place If you’ve ever dreamed of building your own cabin, tiny house, Airbnb, or off-grid retreat, subscribe and follow along as I continue transforming this raw piece of land into something special. 📍 Location: East County San Diego / Jamul, California #offgridliving #airbnbtour #deserthome #mountainhouse #offgridairbnb #landdevelopment #jamul #sandiego #tinyhouse #outdoorliving #homestead #buildinpublic
