The Art of Theatrical Engineering | Alex Patrón | TEDxUTA

Theatre Arts and STEM are typically considered to be alternate ends of the career path spectrum due to the nature of the product delivered. But are these two "polar opposite" disciplines actually more similar than we realize? Alex Patrón is a freshman at University of Texas at Arlington, who is pursuing a major in Mechanical Engineering. In high school, he took rigorous engineering classes while also an active member of his theatre department at his Frisco, Texas Lebanon Trail High School. There, he served as the Head of the Properties Department for over a year. In that department, he served as Property Master for his Junior and Senior years for seven shows. He also dedicated his time and knowledge to five other productions. After earning his degree, he hopes to take his love of creation and theatrics and combine it with his expertise in engineering to apply his new ideas and talents to the Walt Disney Company as a Creative Engineer, or Imagineer. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
