Opositor nicaragüense pide ayuda internacional tras amenaza de Daniel Ortega de cancelar elecciones

Juan Sebastián Chamorro, former presidential candidate in Nicaragua and opponent of Daniel Ortega's regime, asserted that the president's declaration regarding the elimination of future elections confirms the dictatorial nature of his government and presents an opportunity for the international community to adopt stronger measures against the regime. Chamorro, who was imprisoned, expelled from Nicaragua, and stripped of his citizenship, maintained that there have been no free and competitive elections in the country since 2007 and warned that the regime has eliminated the independence of the branches of government, in addition to persecuting opponents, journalists, and religious leaders. He also criticized the stance of some governments in the region, arguing that their silence favors the dictatorship.
