1960: The Woman Cycling Solo Across the World | Tonight | BBC Archive

"Please - don't ask me about my punctures!" Derek Hart meets Muryl Anderson, a 24-year old Canadian, who has decided to explore the world, alone, on her bicycle. She's been travelling for 14 months now, she has already crossed Canada and travelled down to New York, and for much of this year she has been cycling around Britain. By the time she has completed the British leg of her journey, she estimates that she will have cycled 8,000 miles. She shows Derek her travelling gear - which amounts to the bare essentials: her bike, a tent, a sleeping bag, a bike repair kit, and some cooking equipment.
