3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we can comfort those in any affliction with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. 5 For just as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our comfort also abounds through Christ. 6 Whether we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and whether we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which is at work in you, enabling you to endure the same sufferings that we are receiving. 7 And our hope for you is firm, knowing that as you share in the sufferings, so also you will share in the consolation you receive. 8 For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers, of our affliction which came to us in Asia. We were burdened excessively, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life itself. 9 We had the sentence of death in ourselves, So that we may not rely on ourselves but on God who raises the dead. 10   He has delivered us from so great a death, and will deliver us; and we hope that he will still deliver us.
