Due to prolonged rains in Vinnytsia region, gardeners are losing their harvest of early cherries. Excessive moisture leads to the fact that the fruits crack and rot right on the trees. Spring frosts, which damaged the gardens even during flowering, were added to the weather problems this season, Serhiy Boychuk, General Director of the Vinnytsiasadvinprom Corporation, told Suspilny. According to him, there are 200 hectares of cherries in Vinnytsia region. Of these, 50 percent were affected by spring frosts and 40 percent by excessive moisture. In order to preserve the early harvest, they plan to protect it with film next year. According to Boychuk, the adverse weather also affected other stone fruits.
