The Scene-Nat Morris-In The Beginning
#blacktv #blacktvdanceshows #blacktvhistory Check out the Detroit 1970's Ballroom Steps that are still alive, even in 2021. The Scene was one of the first shows to put the Detroit style of Ballroom Dancing on TV as shown in this early 1976 clip. There were many dance shows prior to the start of The Scene. Most notably there was Soul Train, but Soul Train was not the first Black dance show, do your research. The hosts of The Scene Ray Henderson and Nat Morris were from the Raleigh, North Carolina area where there was a black show on WRAL Channel 5 that started in the late 50's called Teenage Frolics hosted by JD Lewis. JD Lewis was Ray's mentor and their gravesites are next to each other in the Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh NC. Ray had actually been on the show and Nat had seen the show many times on TV. There were shows in Washington DC and Philadelphia PA, that even preceded Teenage Frolics.
