DESCRIPTION OF THE GUITAR. If you cast around for a guitar to play some jazz on you’ll find so many to choose from but I took a long punt on one I spotted on Amazon for just under £300. For as long as it’s available you may find it by searching “Musoo Hollow Body Jazz Guitar”. There are too few details about the guitar in the description so almost all the info below refers to my guitar. I e-mailed Musoo and Susan told me that it’s sold under the Batking Guitar brand (see above) with the reference number EJ06. Here are some details based on my guitar. First thing to say is that it’s very well made in this beautiful “Burgundy” red with all gold hardware. I really wish they’d give it a name! BODY Musoo say the hollow body is mahogany (probably laminate) but the wood on mine looks lighter than mahogany so may be maple laminate. Overall length: 107.5 cm; Lower bout, 41 cm, Upper bout 30.7 cm. Thickness at edges’ 4.5 cm. Top edge has 5 ply purfling, bottom edge has single ply purfling. There is a small support block inside under the bridge which, like a violin post, will transmit vibration to the back. NECK and FRETBOARD. C-shaped fixed neck with 24 medium frets and mother of pearl with abalone slant block markers. 3 ply purling on neck edges with dots on upper edge. Finger board possibly ebony and quite flat but radius not tested. Nut looks to be plastic. STRINGS, HEAD, BRIDGE and TAILPIECE ETC. Came fitted with 9-41 generic strings and string length lengths are 62.7- 63.5 cm at the bridge. Bridge has a floating ebony base with tunamatic string guides. Head has 5 ply purfling and Wilkinson (but unnamed?) tuners in the “deco” style. They are very smooth so may have 19:1 gear ratio. The tailpiece is ebony and is attached with the lower strap button. The intonation was very good apart from a slight fret buzz on the 6th string which was easily sorted by adjusting the tunamatic bridge slightly. Overall, it plays very nicely and will certainly do for me! I will probably put a set of 10 to 46s on it. ELECTRONICS The electronics comprises two humbuckers (unbranded but said to be Wilkinson), the neck and bridge pickup are 7.3 and 9.3 KΩ respectively. It has the usual arrangement of volume and tone controls with a 3 way toggle switch on the upper bout. You can judge the sound from the video but I really like it played with pick or fingers. The cable jack is on the side of the lower bout. ORDERING and DELIVERY . The guitar took 24 days to arrive from China and was well packed in a polystyrene box well bound with brown tape. It arrived in almost perfect tune.
