The city is located on both banks of the Dnieper River at the confluence of the Zadubrovenka and Svinka Rivers, 20 km from Orsha, 90 km from Vitebsk, and 30 km from the border with the Russian Federation. The P22 Orsha-Buda highway (to the M1) passes through Dubrovno, and the main Belarusian highway, the M1 Brest-Moscow, is 8 km from the city. Although the first written mention of Dubrovno dates back to 1514, the lands of the Dubrovno region are mentioned in sources as early as 1393, and as early as the second half of the 14th century, the Dubrovno lands were part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. In 1514, the residents of Dubrovno requested service with the Moscow Prince Vasily Ivanovich, and after the famous Battle of Orsha on September 8, 1514, Dubrovno returned to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. As a result of the First Partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1772, Dubrovno became part of the Russian Empire. In the 1780s, the Russian statesman Prince G. A. Potemkin purchased Dubrovno from the town owner Kazimierz Sapieha, where he established the first watch and braid factory in the Russian Empire. In 1917, Soviet power was established in Dubrovno. During World War II, the city and district were occupied by Nazi Germany from July 17-20, 1941, to June 26, 1944. In 1941, the Nazis established a Jewish ghetto in Dubrovno, where they murdered almost the entire Jewish population, approximately 21% of the city's total. In the post-war years, the city actively recovered and developed. Today, Dubrovno is home to several large industrial enterprises, such as the Dubrovensky Flax Mill, one of the largest primary bast fiber processing plants in the republic, and the Dubrovensky production facility of the Orsha Dairy Plant. The city also boasts cultural and educational institutions. Dubrovno can be visited on the road from Orsha or on the way to Vitebsk. In the city itself, of interest to tourists are the Holy Trinity Church, built in 1809, an architectural monument in the classical style, as well as the preserved building of the Bernardine monastery, which was founded in Dubrovno in 1630 by Mikalay Glebovich.
