The cloo is that she has always had a wider musical horizon. Her early role models were all coming from jazz music: Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Joni Mitchell. For her eighteenth birthday her grandfather presents her a record of Amália Rodrigues. That is the point where Cristina Branco discovers the Fado for herself. Today she transforms the Portuguese folklore and makes something very unique starting with the unusual accompaniment of Portuguese guitar, piano and double bass. With this sound Branco interprets a wide mix of songs of different styles on her album "Menina" (2017), composed among others by Mario Laginha. Now the internationally renowned Portuguese pianist orchestrated the music of Cristina Branco for the Frankfurt Radio Bigband. After the 2010 Fado experience with Ana Moura, the encounter with the neo-fadista Cristina Branco ensured a mutual broadening of horizons. Sie gilt als eine der erfolgreichsten Fadistas unserer Zeit und ist doch damit nur unzulänglich beschrieben. Denn Cristina Branco hatte schon immer einen weiteren Horizont. Ihre frühen Vorbilder hießen Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald oder Joni Mitchell. Erst als ihr der Großvater zum achtzehnten Geburtstag eine Schallplatte von Amália Rodrigues schenkt, entdeckt Branco den Fado für sich. Aus der portugiesischen Folklore macht sie etwas ganz Eigenes und singt sie etwa in der ungewöhnlichen Begleitung von portugiesischer Gitarre, Klavier und Kontrabass. Mit diesem Sound interpretiert Branco auf ihrem Album "Menina" (2017) eine breite Mischung von Songs unterschiedlicher Stile, komponiert unter anderem von Mario Laginha. Jetzt hat der international renommierte portugiesische Pianist Cristina Brancos Musik für die hr-Bigband orchestriert.
