Exploring the Abandoned St. Elizabeth Hospital in Hannibal, Missouri!

In this week's Free4All Adventure we're exploring the Abandoned St. Elizabeth Hospital in Hannibal, Missouri. St. Elizabeth Hospital in Hannibal, Missouri, was founded by the Sisters of St. Francis of Maryville and opened in 1915 on Virginia Street to provide medical care for the growing community. The original facility was a 35-bed hospital operated by eight nursing sisters, and over the decades it expanded several times as healthcare needs increased. Additions were built in 1922, 1940, 1954, and 1973, eventually turning the site into a much larger hospital complex that served northeast Missouri for much of the 20th century. In the late 1980s, St. Elizabeth Hospital merged with the nearby Levering Hospital, forming what would become Hannibal Regional Hospital, and medical services gradually moved to newer facilities. The historic red-brick building later closed and sat vacant for years, eventually becoming a well-known abandoned landmark in Hannibal and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012 due to its architectural and historical significance.
