Kenneth Carlsen - Developing junior players [Ep. 162]
Today I chat with Kenneth Carlsen, he is a retired pro player from Denmark and was #41 on the ATP Tour at his best. Nowadays, Kenneth is still on the court but for the coaching aspect of the game. We talked about his different coaching experiences and having the chance to work with some big players (Rune, Tauson) at a very young age. He always knew these players were special and would reach a high level. We then talked about the players he is coaching nowadays and the importance of having a good team around you. Coaching 10 year old is pretty specific and demands very good management of the time on and off the court while keeping a good relationship with his parents. Kenneth then explained the importance of trusting the process every day and not being impatient. If you put in the work, the results will come. Finally, we came back on Kenneth’s career and especially his biggest wins against Edberg, Federer. I hope you like all the stories we had with Kenneth. —————————————————————————————— 00:00 Intro 02:41 Kenneth’s background 04:06 Working with Holger Rune & Clara Tauson at a young age 06:03 Holger’s development growing up 08:13 The importance of having a good team around the player 09:15 The financial side of the process 11:20 Becoming an athlete at 10 years old 18:18 The role of the parents in the process of developing a young player 20:07 The importance of trusting the process and not being impatient 28:34 Kenneth’s prediction on Holger’s career 31:40 Flashback on Kenneth’s pro career 38:07 Beating Stefan Edberg at Wimbledon 41:55 Having a winning record against Federer 44:07 Playing against Sampras & Agassi 45:30 Kenneth’s advice to junior players —————————————————————————————— Find us on Social Media: ➡️ Instagram: / functionaltennispodcast ➡️ Website: https://FunctionalTennis.com ➡️ Facebook: / functionaltennisofficial ➡️ YouTube: https://youtube.come/FunctionalTennis...
