Tyll to go (Kehlmann in 12,5 Minuten)

In his 2017 novel TYLL, Daniel Kehlmann tells his version of the story of the legendary fool Till Eulenspiegel. He equips the figure, already familiar from the Middle Ages, with a life story that brings him into contact with some of the most important historical figures of the Thirty Years' War – from the poet Paul Fleming and the polymath Athanasius Kircher to the "Winter King" Frederick of the Palatinate, whose acceptance of the Bohemian crown had caused this epochal war in the first place. Just as anarchically as his protagonist interacts with his audience, Kehlmann jumps wildly back and forth in his biography, providing exciting insights into the world of the Baroque, which, with its wealth of facts, drove Michael Sommer and his Playmobil ensemble to the brink of despair – because it is painful to summarize such a novel. Nevertheless, we present a short version of Kehlmann's novel in his usual compact and entertaining manner. WARNING: THIS TO-GO VIDEO IS IN NO WAY A REPLACEMENT FOR READING THE ORIGINAL TEXT.
