Flying the Lewis Tops
After ten days I returned to the Lewis Tops. Previously I was there just hiking and observing potential take-offs, it seemed doable. This time already with the paraglider on my back I hiked to the ridge again and saw that the conditions are almost perfect. West wind, about 5 m/s, but stronger in gusts. Before the take-off I struggled with my wing because the gust lifted the wing and made it a mound of lines and fabric. After about one hour of untwisting and untying it all, I was finally able to wait for a suitable interval and took off. In the air it was just paradise. Not many strong and wide enough thermals but amazing views and in the end landing just next to our hut in Maruia Hot Springs.
