After the commercial flop of The Thing, Carpenter radically changed direction to helm this gorgeous road movie where an alien takes the form of a woman's (Karen Allen) deceased husband. What begins as a desperate journey to Arizona to return to his planet becomes one of the purest and most moving love stories of 80s cinema, featuring a masterful Jeff Bridges who moves and speaks as if he'd just landed on Earth.
