Among them is a 6-year-old girl from Ulaanbaatar who only learned to ride this year; yet, the way her body sways in perfect harmony with the horse’s rhythm is a sight beyond words. In Mongolia’s nomadic society, where gender equality has been the norm since ancient times, girls grow up with boundless freedom. The reaction of Mongolians to news of gender discrimination is striking: "Have they forgotten they were born from a mother, and that one of their parents is a woman?" they ask. The 80-day summer break is a true vacation. Schools do not burden students with mountains of homework, choosing instead to let them live without unnecessary stress. In a land where winters can plummet to -50°C, a mentality of minimizing burden on all living things is naturally cultivated.
