Hakki Cengiz Eren's "Three Portals" performed by Mak Grgic on a 2001 Dake Traphagen

Three Portals embodies a musical process that strives to capture a gradual transformation between two different tuning systems. The piece begins in the realm of equal temperament, unstable in its harmonic and rhythmical construction; as the music begins its journey towards more and more stability, each new movement acts as a portal that introduces a microtonal tuning. The new altered notes steer previously employed sonorities away from equal temperament and more towards a system that emulates the natural harmonic series.
