A Winter Festival Returning After 3 Years! The Workers of the Hwacheon Sancheoneo Festival The ‘Hwacheon Sancheoneo Festival’ is located in Hwacheon-gun, Gangwon-do. As this is the first festival to be held in three years due to COVID-19, it is receiving the full brunt of everyone's anticipation. The weight of the Sancheoneo used for the festival alone amounts to a whopping 171 tons. While some tourists catch Sancheoneo with fishing rods on the vast 2km-long ice fishing grounds, others brave the biting cold by jumping into the water wearing short-sleeved shirts and shorts to catch fish with their bare hands. The festival grounds, filled with things to enjoy, are overflowing with the laughter of tourists. To create such a beautiful festival, there are those battling the bitter cold. From the rearing process of releasing Sancheoneo into water temperatures between 5 and 6°C, to drilling over 20,000 fishing holes, to divers entering the icy water to check the condition of the ice for the safety of the festival grounds, and even moving heavy ice weighing nearly 130kg to build ice slides—they are the dedicated workers. The artwork carved into the massive fortress wall by a group of sculptors is truly a magnificent sight. As the festival attracts over a million visitors every year, safety is always the top priority. We meet the heroes who tirelessly work on the ground, braving the freezing cold that makes smoke rise from the body, to create the best local festival. 📺 Broadcast Information 📌 Program Name: Extreme Jobs - Our Local Workers - Village Heads and the People Who Make the Sancheoneo Festival 📌 Broadcast Date: January 28, 2023 #ExtremeJobs #SancheoneoFestival #Sancheoneo #Hwacheon #HwacheonSancheoneoFestival #WinterFestival #Festival #Fishing #IceFishing #SancheoneoFishing
