🏛️ Exploring the Historic Ghanshyam Dol (Nati Gohain Dol), Joysagar | Sivasagar, Assam In today's vlog, I visited the beautiful and historic Ghanshyam Dol, also known as Nati Gohain Dol, located in the historic Joysagar area of Sivasagar, Assam. This centuries-old monument stands as a remarkable example of the architectural brilliance of the Ahom dynasty and reflects the rich cultural and religious heritage of Assam. One of the most fascinating facts about this monument is that it was constructed without modern cement. During the Ahom period, builders used a traditional binding material known as Karal. It was prepared using ingredients such as duck eggs, matima (black gram), jaggery, mustard oil, and bora rice (sticky rice) to create a strong natural adhesive for binding bricks and stones. This traditional technique helped many Ahom monuments survive for centuries. Ghanshyam Dol was built during the reign of Swargadeo Rudra Singha (1696–1714 CE), one of the greatest Ahom rulers, who was renowned for promoting art, architecture, and culture. According to local historical tradition, Rudra Singha brought a man named Ghanshyam from Koch Bihar. It is believed that he was originally a Muslim who later embraced Hinduism and was given the name Ghanshyam. The structure was built as his residence, and over time it became popularly known as Ghanshyam Dol. The monument is also widely known as Nati Gohain Dol, reflecting its historical association with the Ahom royal household.
