Slieve Gullion Hike | County Armagh’s Highest Peak, Stunning Views & Hidden Legends!

This week’s adventure takes us to Slieve Gullion, the highest mountain in County Armagh and one of Northern Ireland’s most fascinating places to hike. Standing at 573 metres (1,880 ft), Slieve Gullion dominates the Ring of Gullion, an area recognised for its unique volcanic landscape and outstanding natural beauty. From the summit you’ll enjoy spectacular views stretching across the Mourne Mountains, the Cooley Mountains, Lough Neagh, County Down, County Louth and, on a clear day, even as far as the Sperrins. Slieve Gullion is steeped in Irish mythology. Legend tells of the giant Fionn mac Cumhaill (Finn McCool), who was tricked by the witch Cailleach Bhéara into bathing in the mountain’s enchanted lake, causing him to age overnight.
