VW Redneck Camshaft Clearancing

With an Air Cooled type 1 engine that has a 82mm stroke crankshaft you sometimes have to grind off part of the camshaft to allow for clearance of the counterweights and connecting rods. For a little extra money you can have this done for you when you order a new camshaft but there is no reason you can't do it yourself. There are probably more professional ways to do this but.... It is what it is! Gitter Done! I do not think it weaken's the camshaft or harms it in anyway unless YOU make a mistake. This is just one of many times that you will mock up your stroker engine during assembly. When you get this part done it's time to remove your piston rings and slide on your cylinders and pistons and check your camshaft clearances again, and again. PITA but it's worth the trouble. Even if you pre order a clearanced camshaft you need to check it several times during assembly. Good Luck with your Projects.
