Ya chikh ya marnikh (Tunisian lyrics & English translation) | عيساوية البلوط - يا شيخ يا مرنيخ --------------------------------------------------------- "Issawiyet Al-ballout" (عيساوية البلوط) was at the beginning a group of citizens in Halfawein (Tunis), about whom we do not know anything, except that they wanted to respond, according to their capabilities, to some puritanical sheikhs. So, they took the initiative to form a comic singing group that they called "Issawiya Al-Ballout." Ballout literally means 'oak tree' but here it has nothing to do with the huge oak tree. 'Chikh' as used in the video was translated to 'elder'. However, a second meaning which can also be adopted is 'Sheikh' who designates the chief of a tribe or a spiritual gathering like 'Issawiya'.
