Finding the Happiest Animal on Earth and the World's Most Alien Landscapes

The Perth to Kalbarri road trip is the third episode of our Australian adventure and the second part of our journey through Western Australia. In this leg, we’re trading the "urban basecamp" of the most isolated city on Earth for landscapes that feel like they belong on another planet. We begin in Perth to resupply and prepare for the expedition north. Just offshore, we reach Rottnest Island, where we document the Quokka. Often called the "happiest animal on Earth". From the coast, we push the 4WD into the snow-white Lancelin Sand Dunes and the 400-million-year-old limestone pillars of the Pinnacles Desert. The journey concludes in the extreme 45°C heat of Kalbarri, navigating the Z-Bend gorges and documenting the underwater biodiversity at the Blue Holes sanctuary. What this expedition covers: Perth: Exploring the vibe of the most isolated city before leaving civilization. Rottnest Island: A field record of the Quokka and the rugged limestone coastline. Lancelin & The Pinnacles: Navigating the "Desert Power" of WA's most alien landscapes. Kalbarri: Finding a Thorny Devil, High-heat trekking in the red rock gorges and coastal snorkeling.
