Sound On: Boston Calling Night featuring Ward Hayden & The Outliers

For the past decade, the Boston Calling Music Festival has put a national spotlight on the city, gathering thousands of concert-goers every Memorial Day weekend. While the Festival has moved from its origins at City Hall Plaza to a massive footprint at Harvard’s Athletics Complex, one thing has remained a constant: a spotlight for local musicians on the big stage. For the first time ever, CitySpace is joining forces with Boston Calling to bring you a special evening of local music ahead of this year’s Festival on May 24-26. Headlining the show is Ward Hayden & The Outliers, Scituate natives who have toured across the U.S. and Europe and just released their ninth LP, “South Shore.” A seven-time Boston Music Awards winner, they double-down on their namesake as a proud country band from a city famous for rock and hip-hop. “We are true outliers,” Hayden said. “We are from Scituate and play country music. But I grew up in a country household — it was my mother’s music.” Come and see how their northern roots resonate with the soul of country.
