One of The Least Visited Countries in The World São Tomé and Príncipe – one of the world’s least visited countries – quietly sits off the coast of Central Africa. Since we were already in Gabon (one of the few countries with flights to STP), we decided to seize the chance. What we found was equal parts beauty, mystery, and complete unpredictability. After surviving a chaotic flight that aborted takeoff mid-runway, we finally landed in São Tomé city. Instead of a taxi, we walked 1.5 hours from the airport to the city center, soaking in lush scenery. But upon reaching our Airbnb, we discovered nobody was expecting us—we had to wait at the gate for hours. We exchanged money the local way (always negotiate!), stocked up at the last open supermarket, and found out the local beer has no labels. And then... It is what it is. Arturs locked the keys in the room. Locals shared folklore about Bayar (witchcraft), and we even learned how Portuguese colonialism shaped everything from language to religion. We spent New Year's Eve walking the beach, and celebrated New Year's Day at the magical Blue Lagoon—reachable only by public bus and 6 km on foot. Later hikes brought us to the iconic volcanic plug at Grande. Muddy, steep, slippery—but unforgettable. Public transport? Almost nonexistent. But even the painful hike back couldn’t take away from the magic of this place. From misunderstood traditions to coconut fences and rare tropical fruits—nobody talks about São Tomé and Príncipe, so we went, and we’re glad we did. 📍 Have you heard of São Tomé before?
