McNeil Point & Ho Rock | One of Oregon’s Prettiest Hikes (and an Unexpected Injury)

McNeil Point is one of my favorite hikes in Oregon—and this trip had a little more adventure than I expected. From wildflower-filled meadows and incredible views of Mount Hood to an unexpected injury on the way down, this hike was a reminder that not every adventure goes according to plan. If you’re planning this hike, be prepared for a rough forest road leading to the trailhead. A high-clearance vehicle is recommended, though many SUVs can make it with careful driving. Parking is limited, so arriving early is a good idea. Trail Information 🥾 Trail: McNeil Point Trail 📍 Mt. Hood National Forest, Oregon 📏 Distance: Approximately 10.5 miles round trip (depending on your route) ⛰️ Elevation Gain: About 2,700 feet 🎟️ A Northwest Forest Pass or America the Beautiful Pass is required. Trail Amenities 🚻 Vault toilets are available at the trailhead. 🐶 Dogs are allowed on leash. 💧 Bring plenty of water—there are no potable water sources at the trailhead.
