Pow Camp Papago Park - Phoenix Arizona/living in Phoenix Arizona
With a capacity of about 3,000 prisoners, Camp Papago Park became famous after "The Great Papago Escape' in Dec of 1944. The largest escape in history of Axis prisoners on American Soil, the breakout was accomplished via a 178 foot tunnel. Today only a sliver of evidence remains of the one-square-mile Papago POW Camp. The Officers Club building and 4 concrete footings of one guard tower. Join me as I visit the Officers building, and search for the remains of the Guard Tower.
