This project documents the rise of Julian Bond from his early years in the Atlanta student movement to becoming a founding member and later communications director of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) to his rise to national prominence by 1968. Mr. Moses was a prominent organizer and strategist for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and the Council of Federated Organizations (COFO). He was the director of the 1964 Mississippi Freedom Summer Project (Freedom Summer) and primary force behind the establishment of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party (MFDP). Here, Mr. Moses discusses his upbringing and educational background, his decision to join the Southern freedom movement, his voter registration work in Mississippi, planning for Freedom Summer and his impressions of and relationship with Julian Bond.
