Skyway Fishing Pier: Gag Grouper & Spanish Mackerel Action

In this video we’re fishing the Skyway Fishing Pier in Tampa Bay, Florida, targeting gag grouper and Spanish mackerel using live bait and cut bait around the rock piles and strong current. We focused on fishing the rock structure along the Skyway Pier by freelining live pinfish far away from the pier in the moving current, a proven technique for hooking gag grouper around heavy structure. While waiting for a grouper bite, we also fished for Spanish mackerel using greenback shiners and threadfin herring, both live and cut into small chunks. Chumming the Spanish mackerel with tiny pieces of cut bait helped keep the fish fired up in the current. By dropping our baits directly into the chum line, we were able to catch multiple Spanish mackerel while covering water and waiting on a big grouper strike.
