Located in the north-west of the department, the commune is part, historically and culturally, of the Couserans, a country with Gascon roots structured by the course of the Salat (tributary of the Garonne). Exposed to a mountain climate, it is drained by the river of Alos, the stream of Artiguenard, the ravine of querblanc, the stream of Argentère, the stream of Aupiet, the stream of Rieutort, the stream of Sarat Mède and by various small streams. Included in the Regional Natural Park of the Ariège Pyrenees, the town has a remarkable natural heritage composed of two natural areas of ecological, faunistic and floristic interest.
