This song is a Pontic Greek song (Greeks from the region of Pontos on the Black Sea), it is sung in memory of the fall of Constantinople but especially the fall of Rhōmania/Ῥωμανία (Land of the Romans/Land of the Byzantines) and commemorate the various tragedies that the Greeks suffered such as the fall of Constantinople in 1453, the fall of Trebizond in 1461 and the Great Catastrophe and the Greek Genocide between 1913 and 1923. This song is generally accompanied by "Dipat"/Διπάτ which is a dance originating from Pontos and which means "two steps", it is two steps which are generally heavy and are the basis of the Pontic dance.
