Being a man has become complicated. Talk of toxic masculinity is omnipresent. How are men and boys doing in our society? And how can people of all genders find a non-violent and respectful way of interacting with one another? Men would suffer from the emancipation of women – this is the belief of "masculinism," a movement that celebrates an inflated ideal of masculinity: strength, wealth, and sexual attraction are considered the benchmark. However, it also addresses men who feel rejected by women or socially disadvantaged. The Netflix series "Adolescence" shows how social media contributes to the spread of misogynistic views. Among the most well-known groups within the so-called "manosphere" are Men's Rights Activists (MRAs), Involuntary Celibates (Incels), and Pick-Up Artists (PUAs). National Councilor Christophe Clivaz (Greens, VS) therefore recently submitted a motion calling for the collection of data on the dissemination of masculinist content. Where does this misogyny come from – and where exactly are the problem areas of today's man? How difficult is it to be a man today? Which ideas of masculinity shape current politics? And what does this mean for the rest of society?
