Two battalions are thrown into a disastrous breakthrough on the German-held bank of the river, aiming to divert enemy forces and thereby facilitate the division's advance on a strategically important city. The main formations are to support them with artillery and air fire. However, command suddenly changes the attack plan, leaving the battalions without fire support, thereby dooming them to certain destruction.
