She is the Founder Chair of Initiatives for Women in Need (IWiN) and Chair of the Canberra Multicultural Community Forum (CMCF), the peak body representing 110+ member organisations in the ACT. She has also served on various community boards, including Canberra Women in Business and Women Economists Network. Through IWiN, Madhumita has pioneered inclusive initiatives like FEMFEST and symposiums addressing domestic violence, gender inequality, and workplace discrimination, providing culturally safe platforms for marginalized migrant women. Her contributions have earned numerous accolades, including the 2018-19 ACT Multicultural Champion Award. Her latest recognition is as Finalist for the Australian of the Year 2025 award for ACT Local Hero.
