[Kim Min-jin / Ballerina: It has been about a week since I returned from Russia. The events that took place there still feel like a dream. From the moment we first decided to enter the competition, to sweating it out practicing with my brother in the studio, to the every day we navigated together after arriving in Russia, and the unforgettable performances—all of these remain moments I am so grateful for. I think they will be remembered for a long time as a chapter called 'Moscow' in my heart.] [Lee Kang-won / Ballerino: When I first heard the news that we had won first place, I felt like I was being rewarded for the time I spent sweating and working hard during the 10 years of training I received since my time at the Korea National University of Arts' Gifted Education Center. I was also so grateful and happy that I was able to finish the performance well with Min-jin thanks to our great chemistry.] Q. Individual awards for men and women... Did you also have expectations after the women's results were announced? [Lee Kang-won / Ballerino: I was much more nervous than excited.] "Because soloists from ballet companies around the world came to compete, and I am still a student, I couldn't let my guard down. However, when I think about the performances we wrapped up well with great chemistry with Minjin, I think I did have some expectations." Q. Why did you choose 'La Esmeralda' and 'Swan Lake'? [Kim Minjin/Ballerina: From the gifted program through our third and fourth years, we were able to experience many works at school. Among them, I think we chose the pieces that suited the two of us best and could best showcase each of us. At the same time, I consulted a lot with our professors to ensure we could show various sides of ourselves across the three rounds of competition.] Q. Praised as 'a level on a different dimension'... What is the secret to receiving such positive evaluations? [Lee Kangwon/Ballet Dancer: I am so grateful that people like our dancing so much. Rather than focusing on technical aspects, I put more effort, thought, and research into how to best convey the story of the piece to the audience." [Of course, executing the movements well is important, but I think I focused more on researching the musical expression of the piece, the chemistry with my partner, and the emotions of the characters within the work. I believe that aspect was well conveyed to the audience and the judges.] Q. You delivered a performance with rich emotions for your age… How was that possible? [Kim Min-jin / Ballerina: As my partner mentioned earlier, I think the emotional aspect was the part we focused on and agonized over the most during our preparation. Even during rehearsals in Korea, our professor gave us a lot of advice on how the characters differ in each piece and how to express those emotional aspects more fully. We also focused more on researching those aspects during practice. Once we arrived, we discussed musical interpretations and other details with my partner, and I think that added depth to the piece, which is why they perceived it that way. I am very grateful.] Q. What are your thoughts on the global success of Korean dancers? [Lee Kang-won / Ballerino: Watching my seniors allowed me to set my goals a bit higher as I prepared for the Moscow Competition. I also want to become a senior who has a great influence on my juniors.] Q. Do you have any goals or dreams you wish to achieve as a dancer? [Kim Min-jin / Ballerina: I want to become a dancer who can convey the beauty of ballet that I feel and love to others. My dream is to dance more in front of audiences by consistently working hard with that same mindset.] [Lee Kang-won / Ballerino: I hope to give the audience members who come to see me a great sense of emotion and a deep, lasting impression. Everyone has different reasons for coming to the theater and different feelings at that time.
