The 2013 BMW X3 is based on the 3-series platform and comes in 2 different trim levels: the xDrive28i which features a 4-cylinder engine and the xDrive35i which has a 6-cylinder engine under the hood. Both trim levels feature BMW's AWD system as well as a whole host of safety features, technology, and luxury amenities. The base model 2013 BMW X3 starts at $38,850. The model tested here is powered by a 2.0 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that makes 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft. of torque. The fuel economy is quite good for a luxury crossover at 21 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on the highway. The larger engine is a 3.0 liter turbocharged 6-cylinder making 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft. of torque. Fuel economy drops to 19 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway. Both models are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The X3 used to be the smallest CUV BMW made until the X1 was brought here to America for the 2013 model year. This second generation vehicle has been in production since 2011 and continues to be one of the best selling automobiles in the luxury crossover segment.
