Akio Yashiro [矢代秋雄] (1929~1976, Japan) Concerto pour violoncelle et orchestre チェロ協奏曲 Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, violoncello Tokyo Symphony Orchestra Naoto Ohtomo, conducting Recorded: March 2, 1991 (Live) at Suntory Hall This work was started in 1959 by commission of NHK Symphony Orchestra, completed in the next year 1960, and premiered by Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi and NHK Symphony Orchestra conducted by Hiroyuki Iwaki at broadcast on August 14 of the same year. The stage premiere was at the Warsaw Contemporary Music Festival on September 19 of the same year during an overseas performance of NHK SO. This work was awarded the Otaka Prize in 1960. It has a truly unique structure that various elements which support the concerto are presented briefly in a single movement. In addition, musical cell of four notes (D - F# - F - D) presented in the cello solo at the beginning circulates the whole work. 00:00 Lento, liberamente e molto espressivo - Andante The work begins with an extremely free monologue of the cello solo. Progressively swelling and presented a new repetitive sound pattern, an orchestra is introduced and the timpani and the cello solo have a conversation. This part is ended by the horn recollecting the repetitive sound pattern. 05:43 Adagio - Più mosso - Adagio A new monologue like recitative by the cello solo. The orchestra accompanies it with simple chords. In this part, the repetitive sound pattern is presented at the peak of height. At the climax, the cello and the orchestra cross each other based on four notes appeared in the beginning of the work. 09:04 (Adagio) - Molto lento - Largissimo - Molto lento The cello solo responds to a monologue of the alto flute with a pizzicato including glissando. Against subdivided string ensemble, the cello solo sings the melody taken over from the alto flute. Once again a dialogue between the alto flute and pizzicato of the cello solo. 14:33 Presto - Adagio The scherzo tightly written. A short time later, the cello solo joins it. After a trio by melodic elements based on four notes, it again becomes a scherzo and reaches its peak. 18:33 (Adagio) The cadenza by the cello solo taken over the rise of orchestra. Then, the dialogue between the orchestra and the cello is recalled and the work ends silently. by Ichiro Nodaira from FOCD-3303 "Akio Yashiro: Piano Concerto, Cello Concerto" booklet NHK交響楽団の委嘱により1959年に着手。翌60年完成。堤剛(チェロ)、岩城宏之指揮N響によって、同年8月14日放送初演。舞台初演は、N響ヨーロッパ旅行中、同年9月19日ワルシャワ現代音楽祭にてなされた。1960年度の尾高賞を受賞している。協奏曲を支えるさまざまな要素が、単一楽章の中に簡潔に提示されるまことにユニークな構造を持つ。また曲頭にチェロ・ソロで提示されている四音からなる音細胞(ニ―嬰へ―ヘ―ニ)が全曲を循環する。 Lento, liberamente e molto espressivo - Andante チェロ・ソロの極めて自由なモノローグで始まる。次第に高まり新しい反復音の音形が提示されると、オーケストラが導入され、ティンパニーとチェロ・ソロが対話を行う。ホルンが反復音の音形を回想してこの部分を終わる。 Adagio - Più mosso - Adagio チェロ・ソロによるレシタチーヴォ風の新たなモノローグ。オーケストラは簡潔な和音でこれを伴奏する。この部分でも高まりの頂点で反復音の音形が提示。クライマックスでは、曲頭の四音をもとに、チェロとオーケストラが渡り合う。 (Adagio) - Molto lento - Largissimo - Molto lento アルト・フルートのモノローグに、チェロ・ソロはグリッサンドを含むピチカートで応じる。細分化された弦楽合奏を背景に、チェロ・ソロがアルト・フルートの旋律を受け継いで歌う。再びアルト・フルートとピチカートのチェロ・ソロの対話。 Presto - Adagio 堅密に書かれたオーケストラによるスケルツォ。少ししてチェロ・ソロも加わる。曲頭の四音をもとにした旋律的要素によるトリオをはさんで、再びスケルツォとなり頂点を迎える。 (Adagio) オーケストラの高まりを引き継ぐチェロ・ソロのカデンツァ。次いでオーケストラとチェロの対話が回想され、静寂のうちに終わる。 (野平一郎、FOCD-3303『矢代秋雄: ピアノ協奏曲、チェロ協奏曲』解説書より)
