Blakesburg!
Every Labor Day weekend, about 350 airplanes descend on Antique Airfield, about 180 idyllic acres of gently rolling Iowa grass just west of Ottumwa, for the Antique Airplane Association’s annual invitation-only fly-in. The pilots, along with family and friends, are there for one reason — to enjoy themselves. Some people stay in locafl motels, while many others camp to get the full experience. Over the six days of the event, there’s not much of a schedule. Attendees eat, nap, watch airplanes, visit with old friends, and make new friends, too. For more about AAA and Blakesburg, see the December 2019 issue of EAA Sport Aviation.
