This educational film follows the global operations of the tanker fleet of the Standard Oil Company of California, showing how petroleum is transported from oil fields and refineries to markets around the world. The film shows how tankers operate continuously, keeping oil moving around the globe and supplying the energy that powers modern industry and everyday life. 00:00 Main titles. – Opening shots of the sea and tanker operations accompanied by music. 1:15 – A modern tanker gets underway under bridge commands. The tanker fleet of the Standard Oil Company of California, which transports oil around the world. 2:10 – Early oil transport by sailing ships and the steamship Lumis, launched in 1895 as the first steel tanker built on the Pacific Coast. 2:43 – The tanker R.C. Stoner, capable of carrying more than six million gallons of petroleum products worldwide. 3:02 – Giant supertankers, including the Universe Challenger and Universe Leader, are shown carrying crude oil to refineries and meeting growing global fuel demands. 3:48 – The film explains that tankers are one of the most economical and often the only practical method of transporting petroleum products. 4:12 – A tanker prepares to depart the Long Wharf at Richmond in San Francisco Bay. The fleet's outstanding safety record. 14:36 – Crew perform maintenance tasks. 15:49 – The galley and dining facilities. 16:51 – The tanker reaches submarine moorings off the central California coast, where a mooring master directs the complex operation of securing the vessel offshore. 18:16 – Divers and crew retrieve a flexible hose from an undersea pipeline and connect it to the tanker for loading crude oil. 19:08 – Ballast water is pumped ashore while crude oil from California's San Joaquin Valley oil fields flows by pipeline to shore storage tanks and then to the ship. 20:14 – In approximately eight hours, the tanker is fully loaded with millions of gallons of crude oil, demonstrating the efficiency and cleanliness of modern loading operations. 20:43 – The fully loaded R.C.
