Furong Ancient Town is one of the most scenic villages in China: wooden houses clinging to the rock, suspended over a 60-meter waterfall. Beautiful, yes—too bad they've turned it into a carousel, where they stop you every two steps to drag you into a restaurant. Amidst all this, our mission: to find some variety in the food, ending up on the hunt for French fries and fried dumplings. We stroll through the "hibiscus town" (Furong Zhen), a village of the Tujia people in Hunan Province, near Zhangjiajie and the Avatar Mountains.
