MMU Guest Lecture (2013): David Crystal 'The influence the Internet is having on language'

On March 11th 2013, Professor David Crystal visited MMU to speak about the influence the Internet is having on language, and what is happening to language as it comes to be used on the Internet. The very well attended and successful talk presented the view that the Internet is in some respects triggering a linguistic revolution and introducing new opportunities for communication, but that its actual influence on individual languages has so far remained quite limited. The day after the talk, Dr Stella Bullo-Alos and some of the Department of Language and Linguistics’ Masters students caught up with Professor Crystal to ask him more questions about this topic, and about his highly influential work in language and linguistics.
