Mini Excavator vs Micro Excavator: Which One Should You Buy for Your Property?

In this video, we put a 1.2-ton mini excavator head-to-head against a 1/2-ton micro excavator to find out which machine makes more sense for a small property owner. I compare my Cardwell CW12 Pro 1.2-ton mini excavator against my micro excavator in real-world backyard tests, including trench digging, travel speed, rock moving, thumb control, storage considerations, trailer requirements, and overall beginner friendliness. To make the test more realistic, I brought in two first-time excavator operators, Rick and David, to run both machines and give their honest opinions. They tested both machines for digging, driving, maneuverability, comfort, and ease of use. At the end, they had to answer the big question: if they could only take one home, which excavator would they choose? The larger 1.2-ton mini excavator clearly has more digging power, especially for trenching and tougher jobs. But the smaller micro excavator is faster, easier to store, less intimidating, easier to transport, and may be a better fit for smaller yards, landscaping jobs, and homeowners with limited space. If you are trying to decide between a Chinese mini excavator, a micro excavator, or a larger compact machine for your property, this video should help you think through the tradeoffs before you buy.
