GCSE Biology - Deforestation & Land Use (2026/27 exams)
⭐️ Check out our website https://www.cognito.org/ ⭐️ ** WHAT'S COVERED ** 1. The importance and diverse human uses of land as a finite resource. Examples of land use: building towns and cities, quarrying, farming, and waste disposal. Consequences of human land use: reduced land availability for other organisms and environmental damage. 2. Deforestation: the process of clearing forests. Primary reasons: clearing land for agriculture (cattle ranching, crop cultivation including rice and biofuels), and logging for timber and fuel. Key environmental impacts: reduction in photosynthesis leading to increased atmospheric CO2, release of stored carbon from burning forests, and destruction of habitats resulting in biodiversity loss. 3. Peat Bog Destruction: threats to valuable ecosystems. Formation and ecological role of peat bogs: acidic, waterlogged conditions leading to peat formation which stores significant amounts of carbon. Reasons for destruction: drainage for agriculture and extraction of peat for fuel or garden compost. Environmental consequences: release of stored carbon dioxide upon drainage and decomposition, and loss of unique habitats leading to reduced biodiversity and potential species extinction. ** CHAPTERS ** 0:00 Introduction 0:52 What is Deforestation 1:44 3 Problems of Deforestation 2:58 Peat Bogs 3:47 Destruction of Peat Bogs ** PLAYLISTS ** • GCSE Maths (9-1) • GCSE Biology (9-1) • GCSE Chemistry (9-1) • GCSE Physics (9-1) • A-Level Biology #GCSE #Biology #study #revision #school #exam #AQA #OCR #Edexcel #IGCSE
