Xuefei Yang - Maxixe - Agustín Barrios Mangoré
An outdoor video of the lively Maxixe by Barrios. The maxixe (Brazilian tango) is a great example of the good things that can evolve by being open to different cultures. Maxixe, a popular Brazilian dance from the late 19th century, took elements from European dances like the polka, and from the Afro-Brazilian dance lundu. It's popularity spread across South America, and by the early 20th century to USA and Europe. Without maxixe there would be no samba - it was one of the dances that contributed to this dance style. So enjoy Barrios' take on this influential style ! You can listen to a studio recording of this piece, as well as other music by Barrios (and other composers) on 'Guitar Favourites' (Decca), available on all the usual platforms.
