Exploring the Aegean by RIB | Kythnos, Serifos & Milos

In July 2025, my wife and I set off from Lagonisi on an unforgettable journey through the Cyclades aboard our fully restored Eagle 630, powered by a Suzuki DF200 V6. What followed was a voyage filled with breathtaking scenery, challenging sea conditions, valuable lessons, and memories that will stay with us for a lifetime. Our first destination was Kythnos, where we spent two wonderful days exploring the island’s coastline, beaches, and picturesque harbors. Early on the third morning, we departed for Serifos. The forecast called for northerly winds of 4-5 Beaufort, increasing later in the day. After a relaxing swim stop at the beautiful Ganema Bay, we continued toward Livadi, the island’s main port. There, the weather decided to test both crew and boat, greeting us with a solid 7 Beaufort just outside the harbor. Fortunately, it was only for a relatively short stretch. Despite the large waves and strong winds, the Eagle performed remarkably well, once again proving the capabilities of its hull and overall setup. We remained in Serifos for two additional days, effectively weather-bound by the strong winds, which gave us the opportunity to enjoy the island’s charm from ashore. Once conditions improved, we set course for Milos, with the wind finally easing to no more than 4 Beaufort. Milos immediately impressed us. In my opinion, it offers one of the finest natural harbors in the Cyclades. We spent three days exploring every corner of the island, including day trips to Kimolos and, of course, Polyaigos, famous for its crystal-clear turquoise waters that truly have to be seen to be believed. On July 9th, we began our journey home, making the long passage directly from Milos back to Lagonisi. This was a demanding and often exhausting trip, especially during its first half when the wind seemed determined to challenge us at every opportunity. At the same time, it was one of the most enjoyable and rewarding adventures we have ever undertaken. It tested our experience, our decision-making, our endurance, and the capabilities of the boat itself. Despite the natural concerns that accompany any offshore voyage, there was never a moment when I felt that the boat was inadequate or unable to cope with the conditions. On the contrary, it inspired confidence throughout the journey. Every mile at sea is a lesson. Every voyage adds experience. And with everything we learned during this adventure, we are already looking forward to planning the next one.
