ACTIVATION OF REFRIGERATED BUDS -    • Activación yemas de PISTACHO // Injerto de...   Hello pistachios!!! Next, we'll see how we preserve the buds from the branches we cut during pruning for later activation, allowing for spring grafting. We want to do this preservation so we can graft in spring. This spring grafting technique is basically to take advantage of the pistachio's greatest growth cycle, since if the graft takes, it can develop to its bud height. It can also be used to perform two more grafts in our field grafting plantations to achieve a more homogeneous plantation. Before we begin to explain how we preserve our plants, let me tell you that there is no clear data or studies. What we are going to show below is research we have conducted for five years based on trial and error. Therefore, we did not want to share this information until we reached 70% engraftment. We also want to tell you that others may have better techniques, possibly even better ones. This is ours, and we are happy to share it with you to continue acquiring new knowledge in this cultivation. Conservation is equally or more important than activation; proper conservation can lead to a high engraftment rate. The steps we follow for proper conservation are as follows: First, bud selection. Just as with summer buds, we do not use all the buds. The same is true with this technique. We always keep the buds from the middle of the vine. These buds are the most suitable and will provide the greatest engraftment, basically due to the maturation of these buds. The next step is to fumigate the selected twigs. We do this with a sprayer. The fungicide we will use will be bleach or copper chloride. To determine the exact amount of fungicide to use in the container, we will speak with our technicians to determine the exact amount. We do this to dry out any fungi that may be present on the twigs. Once they have dried, we seal the tips of the twigs with wax. This is to ensure that the sap does not flow while they are stored in the refrigerator. Since we have to open the refrigerator from time to time to remove and insert packets of buds, the temperature inside the refrigerator can rise and activate these twigs. If they are activated and the sap flows, what can happen is that the sap will freeze in the buds, and therefore, we will have to discard these twigs. We continue with the next step, which is to make packets and wrap them with film. This process ensures that the cold of the refrigerator doesn't come into direct contact with the vine buds, as direct contact with the cold of the freezer can cause the buds to freeze and lower the root set percentage. Finally, we attach the CAP sheet to the packages we've packaged so we always know where the buds we've saved come from. We do this to ensure traceability and thus obtain more information on the source of the buds we've saved. Once we've finished this process, we place them in the freezer at a temperature between 1°C and 4°C. This is our technique for preserving buds; it's not necessarily the best; there may be better ones, but we wanted to share it with you so you can gain more knowledge about this crop and achieve a more uniform plantation thanks to this technique. Thank you very much, I hope this has been helpful. SEE YOU IN THE NEXT VIDEO!
