A Closer Look: Mitochondrial Disease
This Western Reserve Public Media production discusses mitochondrial disease, which results from failure of mitochondria — the power producers of a body’s cells. When mitochondria fail, cell injury and even cell death can occur. Akron Children’s Hospital professionals offer background information and two Ohio families share their stories about loved ones who had the disease. Funding for the program is provided through generous support by Akron Children's Hospital, Northeast Ohio Medical University and United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation.
