The arrival of CAOA Changan in Brazil could represent one of the most strategic moves in the national automotive industry in the last decade. Behind the launch of the new brand lies a powerful combination: one of the largest automakers in China, with over 160 years of history, and the Brazilian automotive group that has already transformed Hyundai and Chery into success stories in the country. In this video, we analyze how the partnership between Changan Automobile and CAOA can redefine the competition for the Brazilian vehicle market, especially at a time of strong growth in Chinese cars and the transition to electric and hybrid vehicles. Changan's history is much older than most investors imagine. Founded in 1862, the company evolved from a military manufacturer to one of the largest automakers in China, accumulating millions of vehicles sold annually, global research and development centers, and strategic partnerships with giants such as Ford, Mazda, Mitsubishi, and Suzuki. Currently, the group operates brands such as Changan, Deepal, Avatr, and Kaicene, consolidating itself as one of the main players in the global automotive industry. But the company's relationship with Brazil began long before the current partnership. In the 2000s, the brand attempted to enter the country by selling utility vehicles under the name "Chana," a strategy that ended up becoming better known for jokes involving the name than for the products themselves. The operation failed to achieve significant scale and ended up losing market share. A second attempt also did not prosper. The scenario changed completely when Changan found the ideal partner. CAOA's trajectory is one of the most successful cases in the Brazilian automotive industry. Founded by Carlos Alberto de Oliveira Andrade, the company built a unique reputation by adapting global brands to the reality of the national market. The success with Hyundai, responsible for iconic models like the Tucson, Azera, and i30, was followed by the creation of CAOA Chery, which helped transform consumer perception of Chinese cars and boosted the growth of the Tiggo line. It was precisely this experience that convinced Changan to invest in Brazil again. The agreement foresees investments of approximately R$ 8 billion, including industrial expansion, technological adaptation, and expansion of national production at the Anápolis, Goiás, factory. The first model produced locally was the UNI-T SUV coupe, which registered strong initial acceptance and helped the company quickly reach thousands of units sold just a few months after its launch. From a strategic point of view, the partnership offers advantages for both sides. Changan reduces risks by using an already consolidated industrial structure and an experienced distribution network. CAOA, in turn, takes advantage of the idle capacity left by the termination of the partnership with Hyundai and strengthens its position as the main gateway for Chinese automakers in Brazil.
