What deep learning actually is

You have almost certainly used deep learning already today. It finished your sentence, sorted your photos, or answered a question, and it can feel like magic. This video strips the magic away and hands you one clean mental model of what deep learning actually is. In about nine minutes we place artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning as three nested ideas, see why "learning from examples" replaced hand-writing the rules, unpack what the word "deep" really means, and walk the training loop that turns a pile of random numbers into a working model. No calculus, no hype, just the single idea the rest of the series builds on. This is Part 1 of the Deep Learning Foundations series, grounded in Chapter 1 of François Chollet's *Deep Learning with Python*. ⏱️ Chapters 0:00 The magic you already used 0:44 AI vs machine learning vs deep learning 1:40 Classical programming vs machine learning 2:15 The real job: learning representations 3:15 What "deep" really means 4:19 Weights, loss, and the optimizer 5:18 The training loop 6:07 Why deep learning won 7:17 Hype vs reality 8:32 Recap and what's next 📖 Read the full article: https://learningbot.tech/what-deep-le... ← confirm URL ▶️ Next — Part 2: we build a single neuron from scratch and watch it learn. 🔔 Subscribe for the rest of the Deep Learning Foundations series. #DeepLearning #MachineLearning #ArtificialIntelligence #NeuralNetworks #AI #LearningBot
