Join us at the 2024 Sulmona Joust/Giostra in Abruzzo, Italy. This event runs over 2 days on the last weekend in July with Sulmona's 7 neighbourhoods competing against each other. There is also the European competition the following weekend.The Giostra is one of the highlights of the many events that take place during the year in Sulmona with Piazza Garibaldi, the main square, transformed into an arena around which the horses gallop just under 30 seconds during which time the Knights pick off rings with their lances. Perfect horsemanship, skill at arms and hand eye coordination is demonstrated. Another festival highlight is the procession which takes place each day of the competition with around 600 participants including flag bearers, drummers, trumpeters, the cavalry, ladies and knights all wearing replicas of 15th-16th century costumes handmade by local seamstresses. The reenactment of this spectacular historic event from the Renaissance period is not to be missed. La Giostra è uno dei momenti salienti dei tanti eventi che si svolgono durante tutto l'anno a Sulmona, con Piazza Garibaldi, la piazza principale, trasformata in un'arena attorno alla quale i cavalli galoppano per poco meno di 30 secondi, durante i quali i cavalieri prendono gli anelli con le loro lance. Sono in mostra abilità equestri perfette, abilità con le armi e coordinazione occhio-mano. Un altro momento clou del festival è la processione che si svolge ogni giorno della competizione con circa 600 partecipanti, tra cui sbandieratori, tamburini, trombettieri, cavalleria, dame e cavalieri, tutti con indosso repliche di costumi del XV-XVI secolo fatti a mano da sarte locali.
